I look behind me,
To see our footprints in the sand,
I look down to see,
Your footprints in the sand.
Did we press too hard?
Too fast?
Or was life always in the past?
When we swam in the sea,
Did you drown in front of me?
I stepped on the shore,
To find you not behind me.
I searched the landscape,
Asked people to help,
But not one had seen your face,
Or felt the presence of your grace.
I started to wonder,
Nay, I started to believe,
That you was never a part of me,
And there was no we.
Yet whilst I traced our footprints in the sand,
I noticed the face of another man,
He was treading footprints too,
But this time with you.
When we swam in the sea,
Did you drown in front of me?
I stepped on the shore,
To find you not behind me.
I searched the landscape,
Asked people to help,
But not one had seen your face,
Or felt the presence of your grace.
I started to wonder,
Nay, I started to believe,
That you was never a part of me,
And there was no we.
Yet whilst I traced our footprints in the sand,
I noticed the face of another man,
He was treading footprints too,
But this time with you.
